THE BROTHAHOOD STORY

Our Mission
The Brothahood is a movement where boys unite through Hip Hop and Breaking—embracing inclusivity, creativity, and connection. We provide spaces where every boy can participate, grow in confidence, and build resilience, while learning tolerance, teamwork, and the power of community through dance.
The Brothahood is a ground-breaking boys-only dance initiative launching across schools in Perth, Western Australia. This program empowers boys through Hip Hop, Breaking, and Popular Music, combining physical movement, creative expression, and a powerful sense of brotherhood. Boys are underrepresented in school dance programs due to outdated stereotypes—and yet, disciplined dance training fosters resilience, confidence, and teamwork. The Brothahood fills this gap by offering a rare, focused space where boys can develop artistically amongst peers.
Beginning at Whitford Catholic Primary School as “Boys Crew” has grown impressively in participation and skill since 2016.
Drawing on nine years of successful dance programming through the Boys Crew at Whitford Catholic Primary School, The Brothahood evolves into a dedicated dance education initiative exclusively for boys. The program has been led jointly by Mrs Candice D’Adamo, a seasoned educator and choreographer with deep experience in the CEWA community, and Nelle Hokianga, Creative Director of Perth’s One Mob Studios—a renowned Hip Hop and Breakdance collective promoting community, culture, and inclusion. We aim to extend the reach of this empowering model to remote communities across Western Australia, where boys rarely access structured dance opportunities. Through bringing Hip Hop and Breaking to regions traditionally underserved in the arts, our program will foster resilience, connection, and creative growth—ensuring that every boy, regardless of location, can experience the life-affirming benefits of dance education.
